Chinese Coptis & Coconut Oil - The Anti-Fungal Power Twins

For a few years now many people have been taking coconut oil for candida and to combat yeast infections. The remarkable health benefits of coconut oil cannot be denied. But, what we have learned via trial and error over time is that coconut oil alone is rarely enough to eliminate stubborn candida infections.

This is why whenever someone has any symptoms of candida overgrowth we find it worth while to use a 2 fold approach.

Chinese Coptis by AMG Naturals is the herb that we often pair with coconut oil. Let me explain why.

The Miraculous Benefits of Chinese Coptis

Historically Chinese Coptis (aka huanglian) has been named as one of the most important “50 fundamental” Chinese herbs. It has been used for centuries for insomnia, stomach disorders and spleen and immune related conditions.

In fact, according to encyclopdia.com, Chinese coptis has been used to treat “gastrointestinal problems as diarrhea, vomiting, and bacterial dysentery, chronic gall bladder inflammations, abdominal cramps, acid reflux (heartburn), painful bowel movements, and bloody stools.

With its extensive list of beneficial properties, you may be wondering why you should use Chinese Coptis for candida specifically. The answer is, it is able to directly inhibit fungal overgrowth as well as kill living organisms. Maybe even more important is that it also lowers blood sugar so that candida has less circulating sugar to consume for energy.

Candida as a fungus is a “sugar eater”. It primarily feeds off of simple carbohydrates and sugar in your diet. If you are someone who has a few pounds to lose, has high or low blood sugar, or you just know you eat too much junk food, then Chinese Coptis is going to help with stabilizing and lowering your blood sugar. Now of course you can’t eat whatever you want and then just go take a few pills, but it can definitely help. (You can see that based upon previous testimonials.)

Chinese Coptis and Candida

Another secret benefit to Chinese Coptis that it contains berberine. The berberine acts as an anti-fungal to help eliminate chronic yeast infections. In fact, this study (2) from 2016 demonstrated that berberine was effective even against Fluconazole (prescription) resistant antifungals. Yes, that means where the prescription medication failed, the coptis was able to help.

Not to mention, it also showed that by using berberine, less biofilms formed. Biofilms can be a major cause of chronic yeast and candida infections as the biofilm protects the fungus from anti-fungal medications.

Many people wonder why we prefer to use Chinese Coptis over straight berberine. The first reason is because berberine has to be chemically processed in order to be put into a bottle. Yes, they may take an herb such as barberry and then use alcohol and or acetone to create the final product of only berberine.

The second reason is due to a special chemical called coptisine. As coptisine continues to be researched, it is becoming the next big player in the berberine family.

Coptisine in this study (3) showed that at low concentrations it started to inhibit growth of candida albicans and later in higher dosages is showed to COMPLETELY inhibit growth of candida albicans.

Another benefit of Chinese coptis (aka rhizoma coptidis) is that it has been shown not only to be beneficial in treating candida albicans, but also in treating candida glabrata, candida crusei and candida tropicalis. These are different forms of candida that can be problematic when trying to treat chronic candida and yeast infections.

Coconut oil and Candida Infections

Coconut oil is a healthy oil that many of us are still investigating its most important uses for. But it doesn’t just have to be for cooking. You can use coconut oil topically in order to aid what Chinese Coptis does internally.

The secret to coconut oil is that it is rich in lauric acid and caprylic acid, which are fatty acids that have antifungal properties. Although it is rich in lauric acid and caprylic acid, it is not purely those chemicals which is why sometimes coconut oil does not work very well for people.  They may have to consume 8 to 12 tablespoons per day to reach effective doses. (We do not recommend this.) This is why we always combine one of our herbal antimicrobials, like Chinese Coptis, in order to have the best results treating candida infections naturally.

In this study, (4) coconut oil for candida appeared to be effective when taken internally for candida albicans, but not as powerful for other fungal species. Once again a reason as to why we double up on difficult and chronic candida infections.

Below I’ll cover how we like to use coconut oil in our offices.

Oil Pulling With Coconut Oil

Oil pulling is a simple protocol where you swish coconut oil in your mouth for 1 to 3 minutes in order to absorb toxins, chemicals and treat infection inside your mouth. We love to combine coconut oil pulling with our activated bamboo charcoal to get the best adsorption and detoxification possible.

Skin Applications Of Coconut Oil

Topical skin application of coconut oil is probably our favorite use for coconut oil. While we don’t’ find coconut oil to treat candida infections internally very successful, we do notice that topical application of coconut oil can help clear candida from the outside in. Not to mention it is perfectly safe for topical application on the most sensitive areas of your body.

In addition to application for female related yeast infections, coconut oil is a great add on to any athlete’s foot or toenail fungus protocol.  After being applied, coconut oil quickly absorbs into the skin to start its magic. Once again, this is the outside in approach that goes through the skin and into the lymphatic system and the blood stream to address any yeast that may be topical.

Because you have a lot of skin, you can get higher doses on the skin than taken orally. In affected areas, you can apply coconut oil multiple times per day. Overall a simple full body application after showering can be enough to ward off and support your body to continually stay ahead of recurrent candida infections.

Candida Conclusion

It is very important when treating stubborn candida infections to both treat with 2 or more herbs and you can combine coconut oil for an “outside-in” approach. Our top 3 supplements for treating candida infections are

  1. Chinese Coptis 3 to 6 capsules daily for 8 weeks
  2. Neem Leaf 3 capsules daily for 8 weeks
  3. Morinda Citrifolia 9 capsules daily for 8 weeks.

By actively and aggressively treating candida in your body your hair will look better, your skin will improve and your body will thank you because its toxic burden will be so much lower.
